The Wincott Awards for Broadcasting are given
to programmes which are judged to have done most to encourage a wider public
understanding of economic, financial and business issues, stories and concepts
– both national and international. There are three annual awards:
BEST TELEVISION PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR: This award is given to the
best single programme or series of programmes, which achieve the Award’s
objectives. It is open to factual, format based and drama programmes.
BEST RADIO PROGRAMME: This award is given to the best radio
programme, or series of programmes, which meets the Award’s objectives and is
open to all genres of radio programme.
BEST COVERAGE OF A TOPICAL BUSINESS ISSUE: This award is given for
coverage of a business, financial or economic story or issue which is part of
the current affairs or news agenda. This
category is particularly suited, though not confined to, news and regular
current affairs programmes and may be given to reflect the quality of overall
coverage by such programmes. In previous
years this award has been limited to television programmes but this year it is
open to both radio and television programmes.
Programmes may be entered for more than one category and the judges reserve
the right to make an award in a category other than that for which the
programme is entered.
In addition, the judges may make a BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR award to
the person on radio or television who they consider has done most to achieve
the Awards’ objectives.
Entries are welcomed from broadcasting organisations, independent production
companies and also programme makers directly. Entries are also welcome from
local and regional programmes, as well as national programme makers - in making
their decision the judges take account of both the target audience and also the
resources available to the programme makers. Those entering a series should
enter just one programme from the series, but may include an A4 page
summarising the series and putting the individual programme in context.
The next awards will be made in 2012. Programmes receiving their first
transmission in 2011 will be eligible. Full details of how to enter are
included in the form for which there is a link below. The deadline for entries
is 24th February 2012.
