Fellowships for Journalists from Russia and Eastern Europe
Between 1995 and 2015, The Wincott Foundation sponsored a programme which enabled journalists from Russia and Eastern Europe to visit the UK for three months of study. The programme was run in cooperation with the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and Green Templeton College at Oxford University. The Wincott fellows spent one term in Oxford, and were based at the Institute for the Study of Journalism offices, where they linked up with journalists from other parts of the world on the Institute's Journalism Fellowship Programme.
The aim of the programme was to contribute to the development of business and economic journalism in the countries concerned. It was closed in 2015, and the Foundation turned its focus for these fellowships to African journalists. For details on the Africa programme, click here.
Evaluation of the programme
As part of a regular process of evaluation of this programme, the former chairman of The Wincott Foundation, Sir Geoffrey Owen, contacted many former fellows in the autumn of 2015, requesting them to write an assessment of the impact of the programme on their subsequent careers, and to comment on the state of journalism in their countries.
